Early Childhood Literacy

Currently there is no commonly reported measure of early childhood literacy. The Grand Rapids Public Schools report that only 17% of kindergarten children in Grand Rapids Public Schools met emergent literacy benchmarks in all three areas of letter recognition, rhyming, and parts of a book upon entry into kindergarten.

The following comes from a Community Research Institute Literacy Survey done in December of 2005.
