Greater Grand Rapids Reads, a coalition of community leaders working to reduce illiteracy in Kent County, believes that literacy is the key to our community's quality of life, economic, self-sufficiency and family stability.

Letter from Co-chairs of the Executive Committee

The steering committee of Greater Grand Rapids Reads welcomes you to the Greater Grand Rapids Reads web site. We are endeavoring increase the literacy rates in Kent County to build a stronger community. Today’s high tech jobs, the jobs communities across the country are scrambling to attract, demand a highly literate workforce.

On these pages you will find some of the results of our work as well as links to sites that will document the latest statistics on literacy and literacy best practices. Please contact us with any suggestions for improving our site.

The Greater Grand Rapids Reads Transition Committee continues to meet to plan for a secure future for the organization so that our community may more effectively address the literacy issues facing us. The committee is currently planning meetings with community leaders to gain their insight into our preliminary plans.

The committee will present a transition plan to the full Executive and Steering Committee in the coming months. We will provide periodic updates in this newsletter. Questions about the committee can be referred to Fritz Crabb.
