Greater Grand Rapids Reads, a coalition
of community leaders working to reduce illiteracy in Kent County, believes
that literacy is the key to our community's quality of life, economic,
self-sufficiency and family stability.
We will increase literacy levels to improve the quality of life in our
community by:
- Providing resources and building capacity
- Keeping the community informed
- Advocating for literacy
- Building partnerships
- Evaluating our work and reporting progress
As co-chairs of the Executive Committee, we want
to welcome you to the Greater Grand Rapids Reads web page. Both of us
have taken a strong stand to improve the literacy rates in Kent County.
We understand that we can not build the community all of us desire unless
all our citizens, both children and adults, have the literacy skills
demanded in today's knowledge based economy.
We encourage you to explore the resources in these
pages so you can become more knowledgeable about local literacy issues
and programs. More than that, however, we urge you to become involved
in building a literate community. These pages introduce multiple opportunities
for involvement. Whether you become involved as a tutor for a child
or adult, join a Greater Grand Rapids Reads committee or encourage others
in your circle of friends, you will be helping us build a more secure
and prosperous future for our community.
Sincerely,
|
